Praise Thursday: The two last “Devotionals For Leaders”!

Today Todd and I had a melancholily day, as we did the last two devotionals from “Time with God for Fathers” by Jack Countryman, but as we like to call it “Time with God for Leaders”.

Here are the last two devotionals we did today:

A father’s reward comes in many different ways

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your ways to the Lord, trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass.” – Psalms 37 4-5

God wants more than anything else to give you the desires of your heart. You belong to him, and his love is forever. When you choose to trust him, he calls you to live in such a way as to honor him and to do good to others so that they might see goodness through you. Your close fellowship with God is the key to a deep commitment to live for Him in every area of your life, in turn, wants to bless you. When you delight yourself in the Lord, he places in your heart his desires for you so that you might glorify him in all that you do.

True Prosperity is the receipt of God’s reward

“This book of the Law must not leave your mouth. Think about it day and night, so you may be careful to do all that is written in it. Then all will go well with you. You will receive many good things.” – Joshua 1:8

When we do God’s Will and God’s way and with God’s help, no one or nothing stands in the way of our success. The key is the presence of the Lord. God commanded Joshua to meditate on his word day and night, and he’s asking us to do the same today. He wants every leader to be successful and prosperous and his work and with his family. Yet, He wants you to remember that your true treasure will accumulate in heaven. God’s word is your Guide to Life. When you discover his wisdom and apply it to your life, everything changes. Your focus, priorities, emotions, and heart become god-centered. When this occurs, you and your family will be so very blessed, and in whatever you choose to do, you will receive God’s we’re just reward of Peace, guidance Cana salvation, and an eternity spent with him.

Praise Thursday: You are not the Lone Ranger and Let go of the past and live for today

You are not the Lone Ranger

Proverbs 22:17-19 – Pay attention and turn your ear to the sayings of the wise;   apply your heart to what I teach, for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips.So that your trust may be in the Lord,   I teach you today, even you. In this way, you may know the truth and take an accurate report to those who sent you.

As leaders, sometimes it is so hard to accept that we don’t know everything, and the world does not rest solely on our shoulders. God openly invites us to listen to His word and open our hearts to His knowledge. It’s been a recurring theme in this devotional that God stands ready to give you counsel. Proverbs 4:10-13 says, “Hear, my son, and receive my sayings. And the years of your life will be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you down the right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stumble. Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; Keep her, for she is your life,” We all need the Lord, no one can do it alone.

Let go of the past and live for today

Isaiah 43:18-19 – “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Bad memories belong in your garbage can. You can’t change them and stewing on them will only keep you stuck up in the past. God invites you to live for today and for every day in your future. When you have  Jesus in your heart, He promises “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2nd Corinthians 5:17). God does not care about what happened in the past. He also doesn’t really care about any material thing you can offer him. He wants your heart and he wants it gladdened and full of his love and mercy. Don’t weigh your heart down with trivial shame of the past.

Toby Mac’s oldest son, Truett, passed away on Wednesday morning. He was 21 years old. A rep issued a statement saying that the cause of death has not yet been determined and said that Toby canceled his concerts in Canada and is traveling back to be with his family. The rep also asked that everyone be respectful of their privacy and allow them to grieve. We will share more information as it becomes available. Please keep Toby Mac and his family in your prayers.

Praise Thursday: Week 3

Today Joe and I dove back into our devotional, Fearless: overcoming the stronghold of fear. Fear is something almost all of us will battle during our lifetime, trying to paralyze you from truly living life. This devotional will lead you through five choices that will strengthen you and help you be victorious over fear.

Today’s choice is: Choose love over hate

Psychologists say that the base of all emotions is either love or fear. The brain also dictates that it cannot hold two contradictory thoughts simultaneously and that the most robust thought pattern wins. In your battle against fear, one of the greatest weapons at your disposal is love. You are loved—more than you know. Once you realize how very loved you are, you can garner the strength to fight this spirit of fear. God gives us a spirit of love and not one of fear.

Learn to live—loved. A loving heart is a loved heart. You cannot say you love others yet hate yourself—or them. Fear would have you traverse the complex road of unforgiveness and hate. These two concepts bind you further in chains. A forgiving heart is a forgiven heart and in that, there is no place for hate. Fear will lie to you and keep you captive, whereas love guides you into freedom. Love is the way of the kingdom of God.

My daughter and I prayed, shortly after the armed robbery, to forgive the men who attacked us, and we had to do it numerous times. God’s love quiets our anxious or fearful hearts. His love enables us to forgive and bless. It’s not easy, but that is the narrow road of the Kingdom of God.

When fear knocks at your door with its accomplices, unforgiveness, and hate, then respond in the opposite spirit and let love lead.

How can you embrace the love of God so that you can be set free from the chains of fear?

The verses we reflected on today:

  • Luke 10:27 – “ He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
  • 1 John 4:18 – ” There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
  • Zephaniah 3:17 – ” The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Our prayer:

“Lord, help me remember that you give me a spirit of love and not one of fear and that when I understand just the smallest bit how much you love me,  I have the greatest weapon against fear. Fear doesn’t have a chance against Your great love, and we praise you for that. Help me to not get caught in the chains of this world, in the chains of unforgiveness and hate. Nudge my heart when I head down the road of unforgiveness and hate and remind me that a forgiving heart is a forgiven heart; and in that, there is no place for hate. Give me the courage to lay my fears and hurts at your feet and to forgive as you have forgiven me.  Amen”
