This week, we continued our 5 week Praise Thursday devotional over a topic that I think hits us all pretty hard. Fear is something almost all of us will battle during our lifetime, trying to paralyze you from truly living life. This devotional will lead you through five choices that will strengthen you and help you be victorious over fear.

Here’s the devotional for week 2:

From our author, he says: “I’ve known the face of fear in my lifetime. As a child, I struggled with being afraid of rejection. It manifested in the form of me believing that if I performed well, then I would be loved more. Later, as an adult, having survived an armed robbery with my young children at home, fear of being attacked again and fear of not being able to protect my children at night reared its ugly head.”
Fear often strikes us when we least expect it.

As we journey to overcome fear, we learn that fear is not of the Lord. He longs for us to live a life free from its grips. Over time and with the grace of the Lord, He has shows us how to overcome fears. Whatever your battle might be, you can overcome it as you place your hope in the saving power of Jesus Christ. You cannot conquer fear in your own strength. Every day, we have to choose hope over despair. Our encouragement to you as you read this devotional is to choose hope.

Hope, by its nature, is future-focused. It has its foundation firmly secure in trusting in God. Hope in your heart can give you the strength you need to conquer your specific fear. In an atmosphere of praise and worship, hope can arise. So, today, if you feel like despairing, don’t give up. Lift your head and worship God. Hope in God will not disappoint you, and hope will give you the courage to continue on the journey of overcoming fear.

Our verses we reflected on today:

Psalm 121:1-2
I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lordthe Maker of heaven and earth.

Romans 5:5
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

As we pray, remember that when fear knocks at your door, let hope answer for you.
Reflect on hope. What do you need to do to let hope arise in your heart?

Our prayer:
“Lord, oh it seems like hope is fading. The fears are closing in and constricting the truths. Show me how to overcome my fears. I know that I can overcome this battle. I can beat this stronghold, but only with your help. I cannot conquer fear through my own strength. When I wake up, Lord, remind me to choose hope over despair, and choose the truth over the lies. Let me build my future firmly trusting and hoping in You and Your power. Give me the determination to not give up. This fight is not easy, but I know you will not give up on me. On the bad days, remind me to lift my head and worship worship You. Continue to give me the courage to continue on the journey of overcoming fear. Amen.”
